Dupatta - No Longer Traditional Outfit

Duppata is an accessory that gives finishing touch to the Salwar Kameez.  Dupattas have entered the fashion world with more elegance and style.  It is no longer stuck to the traditional outfit aura and already made its way to the fashion world. Chunni, Chunari, Dupatta, odhani we know it by different names but its presence adds a special elegance to the women’s attire.

Changing Era and Dupattas

Duppatas were initially regarded as a traditional wear more often used to cover the heads while praying to god or showing respect towards the elders. However with the changing era Dupattas became a fashion symbol which basically draped not only around Salwar Kameez but also around kurtis for women and sherwani for men. If you are planning to wear ethnic outfits, you are incomplete if dupatta is not around to drape you.

Duppatta adds a different charm to all your attires. Duppatas are normally seen in vibrant colors and different stlye like beads work, mirror work, etc… Dupattas come in different types of fabrics adding a grace to your attire. It comes in cotton, silk, chiffon, etc that has eye catchy designs and colors on it.

Draping a Dupatta adds a special elegance to the outfit you are wearing. You can either putting it on both the shoulders covering the chest or just put it on one shoulder having a one sided dupatta. You can also wear the dupatta hanging around your arms. These are some styles while draping your dupatta.

Different Draping Styles

Dupattas with different fabrics should be draped in different styles. Heavy embroidered dresses should always carry a simple, plain dupatta or a dupatta with decorated eye pleasing borders.  Changing the draping style might add new elegance to your outfit. The recent trend of dupatta also known as strolls perfectly suit with jeans, they are mostly worn round the neck, it can also be worn in different ways as like a turban or a sash, in every way the dupatta .Laharia are also in trend these days. Laharia is basically red Raastani dupattas having tie and die strips with beautiful contrast colors. Laharia is not only used as dupattas but also as ripples which has bold stripes on it.

Different types of Dupattas

Apart from having different names like Chunni, Dupatta, odhani, head scraf, shoulder scraf, dupatta is also known as Chunari in Gujrat. Chunari is basically used to drape around the head. Chunari is made similar to laharia. The Indian salwar dupattas are available in different ranges depending upon the fabric used.
